Costa Mesa resident Gregory Scott Gertner graduated in June from Thomas

Jefferson University’s school of medicine. He has started his residency

in ophthalmology at the George Washington University Medical Center in

Washington, D.C. Gertner is the son of Judy Gertner of Costa Mesa and

Michael Gertner of Silverado, Calif. ... Newport Beach residents Richard

T. Hossfeld and Kristin E. Yates were named on the Claremont McKenna

College distinguished scholars list for the spring semester. Hossfeld is

the son of Janell and William Hossfeld of Newport Beach; Yates is the

daughter of Ursula and Douglas Yates of Newport Beach. ... Stephanie

Marie Box, of Newport Beach, will compete in the 2000 Miss Preteen

Anaheim pageant on July 16. ... Costa Mesa residents James R. Anderson

and Chad B. Coluccio recently graduated from South Methodist University

in Dallas. ... The recipients of the “AP-PEELING” award from the Orange

County Market Place Top Banana Car Show are: Paul Austin of Costa Mesa,

best motorcycle, for his yellow 1975 Norton; Bob and Linda Cagle of

Newport Beach, best convertible, for their 1951 Chevrolet; Jessica

Knight, 10, and Jonathan Telller, 7, “biggest” and “neatest” banana

splits. ... Michelle Nation was named director of convention services at

the Doubletree Hotel in Costa Mesa. Nation previously worked at the

Hilton Anaheim as an assistant director of meetings and conventions. In

her new position, Nation will manage the planning, communication,

coordinating and hotel conventions.
