Huntington Valley wins opener

Huntington Valley Little League’s 9/10 Division All-Star team

opened the 2000 District 62 All-Star Tournament with a bang Saturday,

running away from Seaview, 13-1, at Huntington Valley.

“Our team looked hot from the beginning, and we just went from there,”

Huntington Valley Manager John Parmenter said. “We had great pitching and

played great defense once again, and our bats were hot, too.”

Starting catcher Clayton Prestridge led the Huntington Valley charge

by going 4 for 5 with a double. Race Parmenter finished 2 for 3 with a

triple and four RBI, JT Thompson went 2 for 3 with a double, left-handed

hitter Trevor Briggs singled twice, and Mike Bogard and Justin Draeger

each had an RBI single.

Parmenter, who also started on the mound, notched the pitching win by

allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out four in three

innings. Thompson closed for Huntington Valley, striking out five while

also allowing two hits.

“JT came in and shut Seaview down with his beautiful curve ball,” John

Parmenter said of Thompson.

Seaview bounced back from the defeat to rout Costa Mesa American,

12-0, in an elimination game Tuesday.

Carl Eberts went 2 for 4 with an RBI, Franco Duarte finished 2 for 3

with a pair of RBI, Nolan Marcucci went 2 for 3, and Chance Ross went 2

for 2 for the winners.

Starting pitcher Austin Rovazzini recorded the win, striking out four

while allowing just two hits in three innings work as Seaview advanced to

face the loser of Wednesday’s game between Ocean View and Huntington

Valley, today at 5 p.m. at Huntington Valley.

In other opening round tournament action:

Ocean View 6, Costa Mesa American 1

Winning pitcher Kyle Hughes got the complete game victory by striking

out eight to go along with three hits and a walk. MJ Forsberg and Randy

Guite each had two hits, and Matt Ayster also had a key RBI single for

Ocean View.

Fountain Valley 8, Westminster 4

Skylar Winston’s grand slam home run highlighted the victory by

Fountain Valley, who took on Robinwood (who defeated Costa Mesa National

Saturday) in winner’s bracket action Wednesday.
