The Bluetorch Pro will run July 19-23 at the Huntington Beach Pier.

The $168,100 World Championship Tour event will feature the world’s top

44 male and 15 female surfers in a sudden death format. Comprised of the

$135,600 men’s division and the $32,500 Women’s Pro, the “Super Bowl” of

surfing will have an impact on the sport’s world champions, ultimately to

be crown at Hawaii’s North Shore in December.

Reigning men’s world champion Mark Occhilupo (Australia), tour leader

Sunny Garcia (Hawaii), Shane Breschen (San Clemente), Taylor Knox

(Carlsbad), Tim Curran (Ventura), and twins C.J. and Damien Hobgood

(Hawaii) are some of the featured male competitors. Four-time women’s

world champion Lisa Andersen (Florida), reigning champion Layne Beachley

(Australia), and Serena Brooke (Australia), ranked second worldwide,

headline the Women’s Pro field.

Huntington Beach Pop Warner holds final sign up session

Huntington Beach Pop Warner Football will hold its final sign up

session for the upcoming 2000 season Saturday, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the

Edison High football field. The league is welcoming players and

cheerleaders, with both activities open to both boys and girls.

Competition will be held in the following divisions: Cub (Flag); Mitey

Mite; Jr. Pee Wee; Pee Wee; Jr. Midget; and Midget. Registration fees for

both players and cheerleaders is $145, with the exception of Cub (Flag)

Football, which is $75 per person. For more information, call league
