The Issue: The Huntington Beach City Council is considering an

ordinance to ban nudity in public places, including bars and restaurants.

It appears that our Huntington Beach City Council is afraid to make

any decision about banning nudity because they know that banning nudity

in the city will not only show how uninformed they are on such issues,

but also give rise to enforcing it on the beach.

Yes, one can probably see more skin on the beach than at the Flamingo

[Adult Theater.][Councilman Tom] Harman feels that an all-nude

entertainment business “could attract prostitution, drugs, and other

vices to the area.”

Well, those vices already exist in Huntington Beach, and a nudie bar

didn’t bring them here.

The council members quoted in your article [“Surf City may say no way

to nude dancers,” July 13] appear to think that only lowlife, drug

addicted, unemployed sex addicts patronize these types of businesses.

They need to take a little field trip to an open establishment, such

as any Spearment Rhino -- which is also all-nude and no alcohol -- and

they will see that the majority of customers are high-level, highly paid

executives, both male and female.

Maybe the city shouldn’t ban it, but embrace it and tax it.

give me money so I can buy some clothing. I will spend the money only at

clothing manufacturers who have factories in Huntington Beach.

It escapes logic why the American public seems to not care if the

president of the United States commits a lewd act, involving nudity and

sex, in the American public’s house -- the White House -- but is up in

arms over nudity in a private establishment that doesn’t attempt to hide

I don’t understand why we cannot have a Krispy Kreme here, yet we can

have a naked bar/juice bar on Beach Boulevard. This is wrong, wrong,

wrong.

We should not have this kind of establishment in this city. It’s

inappropriate and does not bode well for our city.

So anyway, Krispy Kreme, we should have. The naked juice bar -- no way

in you know what.
