Newport slips past CdM, 11-9

TUSTIN - Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar High boys water polo

forces, enjoying a high ride during summer competition, collided at

Tustin High in summer league play Wednesday and it was Harbor taking an

11-9 decision.

Ryan Cook and Peter Belden were the key figures for Newport Harbor,

Cook netting five goals and Belden three goals, as well as four steals.

Also scoring for Newport with single tallies were Greg Worthing, Caine

Littrell and Brian Pentz.

Goalies Brandon McLain and Shawn Johnson each had three assists.

McLain had an assist.

Corona del Mar’s Artie Dorr and Michael March scored three goals

apiece, Dorr with two backhanded winners out of the hole. Bobby Messenger

had two goals for Corona del Mar, with Chriss Street netting the other

goal.

Sherwin Kim and Beau Stockstill each had five saves in the CdM net.
