Agassi out, Dent gets his replacement
LOS ANGELES - Newport Beach’s Taylor Dent, 19, was scheduled to
face Andre Agassi in tonight’s featured match in the first round of the
main draw in the Mercedes-Benz Cup, but Agassi Monday withdrew from the
Association of Tennis Professionals’ Tour stop at the Los Angeles Tennis
Center.
Last week, Agassi withdrew from the U.S. Davis Cup team because of a
back injury, suffered in a minor car accident the day he returned to his
home in Las Vegas from Wimbledon. Lionel Roux of France will replace
Agassi in the draw and play Dent.
Dent, a Corona del Mar High product, earned a wild card into the
Mercedes-Benz Cup for the second straight year. Dent, the 1996 CIF
Southern Section singles champion as a freshman, lost to Agassi last
month in the first round at Wimbledon.
