Men’s volleyball: Lewis, Johnson fifth

BELMAR, N.J. - Former Corona del Mar High and Orange Coast College

volleyball standout Brian Lewis wrapped up the Sunkist AVP Belmar Open in

fifth place Sunday.

Lewis, ranked 14th on the AVP tour, and partner Adam Johnson defeated

Eduardo Garrido and Paulo Azevedo, 15-12, in the losers bracket. They

then got a 15-12 win over Todd Rogers and Dax Holdren, the No. 3 players

on the tour.

Lewis and Johnson lost to Brent Doble and Stein Metzger, 15-10, in the

seventh round of the losers bracket. Lewis’ former partner, Canyon Ceman,

paired up with Johnson’s old teammate, Mike Whitmarsh, to capture the

Sunkist championship.
