One day after coming back from a four run deficit to pull out a 7-6

victory, Fountain Valley wrapped up the District 62 title Wednesday by

blanking Ocean View, 3-0, at Huntington Valley Little League.

Fountain Valley scored one run in the third inning and tacked on two

more in the fifth as Geoff Feltman, Jason Gorman, Chris Martinez, and

Gordon Edwards came up with key hits.

Kevin Smisko recorded the pitching victory for Fountain Valley. He

scattered five hits over six innings.

“Kevin Smisko was unbelievable,” Fountain Valley Manager Steve Johnson

said. “He mixed up his pitches and changed his speed, and he just pitched

a great, great game.”

Kyle Hughes and Mickey Moses both doubled for Ocean View, and Hughes

also pitched a solid game.

By winning the District 62 title, Fountain Valley advanced to last

weekend’s Sectional Tournament held at Huntington Valley, but was dropped

from the double elimination event Tuesday by Rowland Heights, 8-4.

Fountain Valley won its Sectional opener, as Smisko hit a home run and

John Spirk picked up the pitching win to highlight a 9-4 victory over

Continental La Palma. On Sunday, though, Robert Johnson pitched three

shutout innings, but North Bellflower came back from a 1-0 deficit in the

fifth inning to tie the game, then scored five runs in the seventh to

pull away to a 6-1 extra inning victory.

“We had a great year,” Johnson added. “I told the kids to win the

district was quite an accomplishment, and winning any tournament after

that was just gravy. I’m really proud of them.”

Other members of Fountain Valley Little League’s 9/10 Division

All-Star team include Aaron Malais, Mike Delicce, Zach Cardenalli, Matt

James, and Garrett DeJong.
