At the Orange County Museum of Art are installed and upcoming shows

that span the globe as well as represent myriad styles of visual arts.

Closing Sept. 3 is “Circles of Influence: Impressionism to Modernism

in Southern California Art,” an exhibit that focuses on the progressive

artists of early 20th century Los Angeles and their response to East

Coast and international art movements.

On exhibit through Oct. 15 is “Correspondences: Isamu Noguchi and

Ellsworth Kelly,” a collection of works on paper and sculpture by two

artists not obviously connected. But the works “pair together

effortlessly, each artist’s work informing the other in a refreshing play

of subtle curves and commanding volumes,” according to museum spokesman

Brian Langston.

Beginning Aug. 5 and running through Feb. 11, the installation gallery

will house “Chris Burden: A Tale of Two Cities.” Burden, a California

artist, has constructed miniatures of city-states at war. He used more

than 5,000 war toys such as soldiers, tanks, rockets and building from

the United States, Japan and Europe.

In September, the museum will launch a “Wells Fargo Craft Show”

featuring an exhibit and sale of functional works of art. More than 60

artists from a variety of backgrounds will show their work in five craft

media: glass, metal, fiber, ceramic and wood.

An opening reception will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 15.

Admission to the reception, which includes live music, refreshments and a

chance to chat with the artists, is $25.

Opening Oct. 14 is an exhibit of 40 drawings, 45 painting/sculpture

hybrids and five free-standing sculptures by Tony DeLap. The exhibit

chronicles more than 40 years of the artist’s development.

On exhibit at the museum’s South Coast Plaza gallery through Sept. 24

is “Al Belson: A Photographic Reverie,” a collection of photographs from

Belson’s travels to places including Italy, Spain, Yucatan and the

American West.

The former Hollywood photographer moved to Hollywood from London in

1950 and opened a studio on Sunset Boulevard. As the glitz of Hollywood

moved to Las Vegas, Belson followed. The results can be viewed at the

satellite gallery during mall hours.

Orange County Museum of Art is at 850 San Clemente Drive, Newport

Beach. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is

$5 for adults, $4 for students and seniors, and free for museum members

and children under 16.

Mesa. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7
