Sailing: Buratti wins in Chicago

CHICAGO - Lee Buratti of Costa Mesa was the winner in the U.S.

Independence Cup/North American Challenge Cup for sailors with

disabilities last weekend in Chicago. It is the championship race in

North America for sailors with disabilities.

Buratti won the Martin 16 exhibition race. In that race, the

competitors raced by themselves in specially-equipped boats without the

help of volunteers. The exhibition consisted of six races. Buratti

finished ahead of David Schroeder of Miami and Mark Evju of Santa Rosa.

The event was hosted by the Chicago Yacht Club and was held on Belmont

Harbor off Lake Michigan.
