GUY CARROZZO -- Mayor’s Column

I am very excited about Fountain Valley’s new photo contest, called

Hot Shots Around Town.

I have asked City Clerk Susan Lynn to give you all the details:

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. I believe it,

because when I look over family albums, I see unique moments and images

that rouse rich memories.

Each wink, pudgy toddler, smile and gathering tells a distinct story,

sacred to the family lore.

The Fountain Valley family archives, located at City Hall, contain

many photos that also beckon fond memories -- the Ruby Jubilee, fertile

farmland, the City Hall groundbreaking and 19th century Talbert Village.

But now, at the turn of the millennium, it is most important to

restock the photo bank -- to help expand the archives for future

residents.

Therefore, I am proud to promote an exciting opportunity, the city’s

first photo contest -- Hot Shots Around Town.

If you are a Fountain Valley resident, worker or student, you may

enter photos taken within the city limits to the Hot Shots contest. For

the top 10 photos, the city has generous prizes, such as $500 and a

digital camera for the grand prize winner.

Contest entries may be black and white or color. Each submission must

be an 8-by-10 mounted on foam board. The adhesive application and

negative must also be attached to the back side of the photo’s foam

board.

Applications are available at City Hall, 10200 Slater Ave. You must

have taken the photo to be eligible to submit it.

And best of all, there is no entry fee.

The photo categories are Fountain Valley Impressions (showing Fountain

Valley architecture, buildings, landscape, parks and other places around

town); Fountain Valley Spirit (showing Fountain Valley life, e.g.,

people, neighborhood, community and family gatherings, worship services,

school activities, sporting events, etc.); and Fountain Valley Life

through Student Eyes (open to students 18 and younger) of any Fountain

Valley subject that is in good taste.

Entries may be brought to the City Hall receptionist or mailed to City

Hall. The mailing address is 10200 Slater Ave., Fountain Valley, CA

92708.

Mail-in entries must be carefully packed in padded envelopes, and the

envelope must be marked “Hot Shots Around Town, do not bend.”

All submissions must be received at City Hall or postmarked no later

than Oct. 13. All entries will become the property of the city of

Fountain Valley for use in municipal buildings, exhibits, publications or

program promotions.

Don’t be shy, seize this terrific opportunity.

Whether you’re an amateur or professional photographer, start snapping

... and submit your Hot Shots around Town.
