A very special Orange Coast family, Myron, Carol and Megan Kanofsky,

will be the recipients of the “La Dolce Vita” award presented at the

upcoming event benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The eighth annual event, set for Sept. 24, will be presented under the

evening stars on the courtyard of Antonio Cagnolo’s Antonello Ristorante

at South Coast Plaza Village.

The Kanofsky family will be recognized for their dedication to help

other families whose members suffer with Cystic Fibrosis. In 1997, Carol

and Myron lost their daughter, Sarah, to the fatal disease, which attacks

children.

“From the time of Sarah’s diagnosis, to this very day, they have

continued to dedicated their lives to doing whatever is necessary to

contribute to the discovery of the cure,” said Karen Hall, co-chair of

the upcoming “La Dolce Vita”

event.

Myron Kanofsky, a local physician, has worked with his wife and

daughter to raise significant funds for research. Sebastian Paul Musco

will serve as the other chairman for the benefit.

The committee is working to secure underwriting funds. Call Shawn

Dracoules at (714) 938-1393 to get involved.

Nicole Marshall advises that the Junior League of Orange County is

working with the chic St. John Home Store, South Coast Plaza, and the

respected Wine Journal on behalf of the Junior League’s pet projects

including sponsoring Laura’s House, an arts program for abused children,

and Olive Crest’s Adopt-a-House program.

St. John Home Store and the Wine Journal will gather their collective

underwriting forces to invite the community to a wine-tasting and hors

d’oeuvres party to announce the collaboration of the Junior League with

these three projects. The Aug. 17 reception will take place in store at

St. John Home.

All of these efforts will coordinate with the Junior League’s massive

Christmas company undertaking. This year marks the 25th anniversary of

the holiday event. For more information on the upcoming reception, call

Nicole Marshall at (949) 263-0442.

Hoag Hospital’s hard working special events producer Chris Premer and

Toshiba Senior Classic Director Jeff Purser are proud to share the

information with the community that the Toshiba Senior Classic will

return in 2001, even bigger and better than in previous years.

The golf classic has been associated with Hoag Hospital for the last

two years it has teed off at Newport Beach County Club.

The seventh annual Toshiba Classic will once again be contested at the

Newport Beach Country Club, Feb. 26 through March 4, 2001.

In 2000, the event set historic records for local charity, raising

more than $1 million under the Hoag stewardship.

Recently, yet another donation in the amount of $10,000 was made to

the Latrobe Area Hospital Foundation in honor of Arnold and the late

Winnie Palmer.

Sponsorship packages are now available for both corporate and

individual support. For more information, call (949) 515-4840.

“Cabaret” opened this week at the Orange County Performing Arts

Center, with the local crowd turning out in force for the Tuesday evening

premiere.

The musical, a drastic rewrite of the original Kander and Ebb hit, is

decidedly darker and more sexually explicit, portraying the wildly

decadent and morally ambivalent period of history between the two world

wars in Berlin.

The production, which has been touring with various casts for several

years, took home four Tony Awards in 1999, including Best Musical

Revival.

To give you a hint concerning the tone, this version of “Cabaret” was

codirected by Sam Mendes, who also directed this little movie called

“American Beauty,” for which Mendes garnered the Academy Award for

direction.

The run at Segerstrom Hall is underwritten by Mellon Private Asset

Management. Tickets are available.
