Jr. All-American football readying for kickoff .

Opening Day for Newport-Mesa Junior All-American Football will be

Saturday, with full contact scrimmages and a barbecue catered lunch by

Texas BBQ.

Each of the six Newport-Mesa teams will host a scrimmage with an

out-of-town team on the athetic fields at Corona del Mar High School.

Scrimmages will be from 10 a.m.-noon, with the barbecue at noon.

The scrimmage schedule pits the Jr. Clinic Seahawks. the Clinic

Seahawks, Jr. Pee Wee Seahawks, Jr. Midget Seahawks and Midget Seahawks

against five squads of Westminster Lions. The Pee Wee Seahawks will duel

the Irvine Chargers.

The event is open to the public and lunch is $5.
