ISSUE: STRATEGIC GOALS

Vote: 5-0

Summary: At its Aug. 10 meeting, the school board adopted its six

strategic goals for the district for the 2000-01 school year as discussed

at the July 6 study session. The board will focus on the long-term

objectives of the goals, which aim to improve and maintain the district.

The goals cover the areas of standards and implementation, teaching and

learning, delivery of instructional services, employee compensation,

sufficient and adequate personnel, and property management.

ISSUE: BOARD INTERESTS

Vote: 5-0

Summary: The board adopted the five board interests for the 2000-01

school year as discussed at the July 6 study session. The board interests

are short-term objectives for the year. They are the following: to

continue to encourage greater involvement of all students in

extracurricular activities; continue a program for board recognition of

district volunteers; remodel the front and back walls of the board room

to reflect the new lighthouse logo and to update the outstanding service

award display; continue to address the issue of traffic, parking and

student safety at school sites; and continue the implementation of Fixed

Asset Accounting in 2000-01, the second year of a two-year trial for this

program.

ISSUE: PUBLIC SERVICE GRANT

Vote: 5-0

Summary: The district applied for and received a public service grant

from the city of Fountain Valley for the 2000-01 school year. The $6,500

grant will be used to continue implementation of the free after-school

program for the district’s sixth- through eighth-grade students.
