INSIDE SCOOP

Tim Turner, a Huntington Beach maintenance crew leader who has

supervised beach maintenance for more than 25 years, noticed something

was a bit different around the beach, pier and Downtown area. But he

couldn’t quite put his finger on it.

It turned out that the old stickers that were put on pier railings,

beach signs and parking meters seemed to have disappeared -- all thanks

to Mel Elliott.

The 70-year-old Huntington Beach native, dressed in running shoes and

jogging shorts, took it upon himself this summer to voluntarily remove

the stickers. Turner came across Elliott one morning, who had a razor

blade in one hand and old stickers in the other.

HONORED BY HIS HONORARY TITLE

Oscar Taylor was recounting his memories of the good ol’ days with his

high school buddies from the class of 1939 at one of their recent monthly

breakfasts. Of all his achievements, the so-called mischief-maker has a

few that stand out for him. Taylor was the only honorary male member of

both the Girls Athletic Assn. and Girls’ League.

“That was my main accomplishment in high school,” he said. That, and

informally carrying the title of least likely to succeed.

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE?

The California Integrated Waste Management board held its monthly

meeting in Fountain Valley last week. It was there that the board’s chair

was discovered to be Fountain Valley’s very own... Linda

Moulton-Patterson.
