Edison High School graduate Alexa M. Burns was named to Claremont

McKenna College’s distinguished scholars list for the spring semester. A

junior psychology and biology major, she is the daughter of Hermine and

Colin Burns of Huntington Beach. Only students with an A-minus average

are named to the the list ... Army National Guard Pvt. Jose A. Ochoa

graduated from the parachute rigor course at the 262nd quartermaster

battalion at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Va. Ochoa is the son of Lusila Ochoa

of Fountain Valley ... Army Pvt. Daniel L. Mathis graduated from basic

combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. He is the son of

Elizabeth Mathis of Huntington Beach and a 1992 graduate of Ocean View

High School in Huntington Beach ... Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jonathan

R. Stahl, son of Kathy M. Stahl of Huntington Beach, departed on a

six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while

assigned to an aircraft carrier ... Army Sgt. Robert C. Beckhart was

decorated with an Army commendation medal, which is awarded to

individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement for meritorious

service in the performance of their duties. Beckhart, a section leader,

is assigned to the 1st battalion 506th infantry Camp Reaves in South

Korea. He is the son of Charles H. and Edna I. Beckhart of Huntington

Beach ... Donna E. Silva graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado

Springs, Colo. She was commissioned as a second lieutenant. Silva is the

daughter of Jim and Connie Silva of Huntington Beach and is a 1996

graduate of Marina High School.
