Campaign leaves mark at Huntington Beach High

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Pride Campaign 2000 has struck again.

And it has left its mark across the math and science building at

Huntington Beach High School.

A bright splash of orange and black letters reading “Huntington Beach

Oilers” adorns one side of the building and “Welcome! to HB high school”

adorns the other.

The most recent phase of the Painting the Way -- Pride Campaign 2000

is the painting of the math and science building. In the spring, the

building received a much-needed coat of paint, and the lettering was

completed last week.

The building, which hadn’t seen fresh paint since 1972, looks new

again.

“It’s more spirited,” sophomore Jeremy Deaton said.

Students say the building looks a lot better than it did a year ago.

“It’s nice that we can have our name up,” senior Eugene Park said.

Parents, community members and area businesses funded the $6,300

project to get the Oilers name back up on the building.

Larry Lousen of Boss Graphics, who also painted “Ocean View High

School” on that school’s campus, did the work for Huntington Beach High.

“The goal is to bring pride back to the campus,” said Gail

Pelliccioni, campaign coordinator.

The next phase of the campaign is to restore the historic homemaking

building, which sits on the corner of the campus near the math and

science building. Pelliccioni hopes to add earthquake-proof windows, new

paint and a planter box around building, which will contain flowers and

plants and a seating area for students.

The project is expected to cost about $6,000 for the planter and

paint.
