19th Street: Some wee youth cried himself to sleep last Wednesday

after his kid-size bike was snatched from his home in the 800 block

Wednesday afternoon. The bike was only worth $100, but it apparently

proved irresistible for a passing prowler.

Redhill Avenue: A 35-year-old woman with bleached blond hair and a

snazzy black outfit popped out of her Lexus sport utility vehicle Monday

and strolled into Kenneth McDonald designs in the 2900 block. The savvy

shopper picked out $150 worth of fabric samples, walked back into the

parking lot and drove away. No word yet on whether the samples worked

with the woman’s interior decorating scheme.

West 19th Street: She was tattooed, she was pierced and she was broke.

But that last detail didn’t stop a woman from getting a trim at the

Geminis Beauty Salon in the 700 block Aug. 26. The woman treated herself

to a $32 haircut and then skipped on the bill, claiming she had to go to

her car for the money. Police describe the woman as having a red and

black tattoo, along with tongue and belly piercings. Her hairstyle they

merely call “short.”

NEWPORT BEACH

MacArthur Boulevard: The law firm of Obegi & Brewer reported getting a

string of a dozen obnoxious phone calls to its 4000 block office on

Thursday morning. Each time, the mysterious callers said nothing and

quickly hung up. “Suspects are annoying employees,” the police report

notes. Whether this means employees are being annoyed or annoying

employees are under suspicion seems unclear.

Sierra Vista: A student left his skateboard in his 2500 block driveway

unattended overnight early last week. When he woke up the next morning,

it was gone. Total loss: $100 and a little bit of innocence.
