Saks Fifth Avenue will kick off the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

charity shopping weekend on Sept. 21 with a shopping cocktail party. Saks

will discount merchandise 10% from 6 to 9 p.m. and refreshments will be

served in the store. Two percent of Saks’ sales from Sept. 21 through

Sept. 24 will be donated to High Priority, the breast cancer information

network, and the Cattle Baron’s Ball, which is a fund-raiser for the

Callaway replaces McDonald for cabaret performance

Ann Hampton Callaway, a Tony nominee for her performance in the

Broadway musical “Swing!,” will replace Audra McDonald in the 2000-2001

cabaret season at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. McDonald was

forced to postpone her previously-scheduled appearance to a future

season.

Callaway will perform at the Center 7:30 p.m. Thursday through

Saturday, 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday from Feb. 22 to 25. The

performances will be at Founders Hall in the Center, 600 Town Center

Drive, Costa Mesa. Tickets are $49 for the 7:30 p.m. shows and $45 for

the 9:30 and 1 p.m. shows. Information: (714) 556-2787.

James Darren to play at OCC

Singer and actor James Darren, best known for his role as crooner Vic

Fontaine on “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” will return to his musical

roots at 8 p.m. Oct. 14 at Orange Coast College’s Robert B. Moore

Theatre, 2701 Fairview Road in Costa Mesa.

After 15 years as a television director, Darren recently released a

compact disc titled “This One’s From the Heart.” His credits include 12

albums and five Top-10 singles. Tickets range from $21 to $27.
