Two arrested after shooting, chase

COSTA MESA -- Costa Mesa police and Orange County Sheriff’s deputies
arrested two burglary suspects early Thursday morning after a brief chase
that ended only after deputies had fired on the duo.
The suspects, identified as 19-year-old Camille Marie Luck of Mission
Viejo and 36-year-old Daniel Greg King of Laguna Beach, each had warrants
for felony burglary charges. King’s warrant also alleged possession of
dangerous drugs.
The chase began after deputies in an unmarked cruiser attempted to
arrest the two at 1:10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Rite Aid pharmacy
at 3029 Harbor Blvd., said sheriff’s investigator Steven Doan.
When one of the deputies identified himself, Luck, who was driving a
U-Haul moving van authorities believe was stolen, steered the truck
directly at the deputy, Doan said. The deputy dove into a planter to
avoid being hit, he said.
The truck then hit the deputies’ vehicle.
Two other deputies driving up to the scene witnessed the assault and
opened fire on the truck but did not hit anyone.
Luck continued driving southbound on Deodor Street and stopped at
Baker Street. There, both suspects left the vehicle and fled on foot
before being arrested with the assistance of Costa Mesa police.
The truck, however, was left in gear and rolled across the street,
crashing into a wall next to a Savemax Super market at 2975 Harbor Blvd.
The suspects were booked at Orange County Jail. They now face charges
of attempted murder of a police officer, as well as the original burglary
charges, Doan said.
No one was injured in the chase.
