During a Huntington Beach Community Services Commission meeting,

resident Chris Button praised commissioners and other city officials for

approving benches and picnic tables at Eader Park in his neighborhood.

“On behalf of the Southeast Huntington Beach Neighborhood Assn. I

thank you for listening to the community, but my daughter Cori requests,

if possible, to bring back the rocking horses she used to play on . . .

they were her favorite,” he said as Cori, 5, hugged him tight.

The playground’s play horses and other equipment were replaced with a

modular play set.

Later that night, commissioners approved a City Council plan to spend

$50,000 for more play equipment at the park.

“And let’s make sure to suggest they look into play horses when they

buy it,” Commissioner Jay Kreitz said.

ALL IN GOOD FUN

While telling a story at the Fountain Valley Mayor’s Breakfast last

week, Capt. Alvin “Bud” Anderson of the Army Corps took a tongue-in-cheek

shot at fellow veteran Guy Carrozzo. The mayor, whose parents were

Italian, sat smiling through it all.

“We had the worst planes back then,” Anderson said. “Even the Italians

had better planes than us.”

FILLING DEAD AIR

During a Fountain Valley School District board meeting, Assistant

Supt. of Business Steve McMahon was to give a presentation on the state

budget update to the board. While waiting for the projector and computer

to warm up, he was quietly prompted to keep talking until the machines

were ready.

“OK . . . Keep talking . . . Have you heard the joke about . . .” he

said to fill the dead air.
