AXING DOUBLE-DUTY PAY

Ocean View School District Supt. James Tarwater has nixed the idea of

receiving an extra salary -- $200 a day -- for doing the job of the

assistant superintendent of business, a position that is vacant. The

proposal, which would have given the superintendent roughly an additional

$12,000, was tabled during the board meeting. Tarwater said he took the

action because it “was for the best interest in the district.”

A UNIQUE-LOOKING SURF CITY

City officials have OKd design guidelines for land developers planning

new projects to encourage good-looking projects and create a unique look

for the city. The guide will lay the groundwork detailing the city’s

expectations in signs, landscaping and public art, as well as updating

guidelines for Downtown.

DON’T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT

Huntington Beach city offices are being flooded with calls from people

who want to know more about the proposed Surf City credit card. City

officials are moving ahead with plans to join forces with the corporate

world to give residents the chance to shop for the city, with a portion

of each retail dollar going toward local programs. The proposed card will

depict a picturesque sunset or the city’s logo. Money raised from credit

card sales will benefit city park, culture and library programs.

BLURRED VISION

In 1988, Natalie Kotsch founded the International Surfing Museum in

Huntington Beach -- a venture that is very successful today. But her

plans to keep the museum running at full force have hit a snag. Kotsch

needs help -- both physically and financially -- to keep the museum

running. She is hoping that some of the area’s larger corporations will

contribute financially to the museum.
