Dr. Cathy Ferguson, a Huntington Beach resident, was inducted into

the Los Angeles Athletic Club’s Hall of Fame at its recent Millennium

Celebration.

Honored for her swimming triumphs and contributions to the sports

world, Dr. Ferguson won two gold medals in swimming (backstroke) at the

1964 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. Additionally, she set five world

marks and has been named as one of the top 200 female athletes.

Dr. Ferguson is currently the chief marketing officer for the American

Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO). In addition to her athletic prowess,

she has also made her mark as an accomplished swim coach, and has also

published numerous books and articles on sports, fitness, and education.

According to AYSO National Executive Director Cherie Tucker, Ferguson

is a valuable member of the AYSO Management Team.

“Cathy joined us four years ago,” Tucker said, “and has brought with

her that same dedication and Olympic spirit that must have guided her to

winning gold years ago. Under her leadership and inspiration, the AYSO

marketing department has flourished and we have welcomed numerous

corporate sponsors to AYSO.
