Zack Zarilli, a 1999 graduate of Corona del Mar High School and the

son of Siouxzie Zarilli of Balboa Island, made the dean’s list for the

2000 spring semester at the University of San Diego. He will be a

sophomore this fall in the college of arts and sciences. ... The J’s

Celebration Ball 2000 Committee recently hosted a lunch and Jewish

Community Center site tour to kick off this year’s fund-raiser ball,

titled “Celebrate our Youth” and planned for Oct. 29 at the Hyatt

Newporter in Newport Beach. Special guests were Dr. James L. Doti,

Chapman University president; Blossom Siegel, philanthropist and former

Jewish Federation president; and Mike Lefkowitz, the center’s vice

president of development and executive director of the Samueli Family

Foundation. They will be honored with the Jewish Community Center

Tzedakah Award at the ball. The event will be dedicated to the center’s

early childhood and youth education and recreational programming. ...

George L. Blanc, OCC’s administrative dean of economic development and

community education, was recently elected chairman of the executive

committee of the Orange County Business Resource’s Assistance and

Innovation Network Collaborative. The group promotes economic and work

force development, collaboration and communication among program and

service providers in the country. A native of France, Blanc received his

bachelor’s degree in business education from Cal State Los Angeles. He

earned a master’s degree in administrative services from USC. Before

joining the OCC staff in 1974, Blanc owned his own French restaurant. The

Fountain Valley resident lives with his wife, Esther, a teacher at Mater

Dei High School in Santa Ana for 17 years. His four children all

graduated from OCC. Blanc will serve as chairman of the executive

committee through Aug. 31, 2001. ... Orange Coast College recently

honored graduate Jennifer Lindsay with a $1,000 Renaissance Award from

the National Alliance for Excellence, a nonprofit organization dedicated

to recognizing and supporting excellence on the part of high school and

college students. The Renaissance Award honors students demonstrating

excellence in both the arts and sciences. A 1998 biochemistry graduate,

Lindsay is now a senior at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, majoring in

computational and mathematical biology.
