COSTA MESA - A rivalry can motivate a team to great heights as was

the case in Costa Mesa High’s 14-4 victory at Estancia in a Pacific Coast

League girls tennis opener, Thursday.

“Because it was a crosstown rival, everyone was up and played better,”

said Costa Mesa Coach Joe Havens. “This is probably the best we have

played all year.”

Mustangs sophomore Hillary Havens, the team’s No. 1 player, defeated

Kelly Trettin, Stacie Nellor and Hani Charezaie. Costa Mesa’s Misa Lee

and Sunglee Kim also swept in singles.”This is our biggest match of the

year, our crosstown rival,” Havens said. “Our singles played incredibly.

This certainly starts us off on the right foot.”
