FILM NOIR

Orange Coast College professor H. Arthur Taussig will moderate a

three-part series on film noir starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Orange

County Museum of Art. Taussig, author of “Film Values/Family Values: A

MUSICAL EXPLOSION

The Philharmonic Society of Orange County’s Eclectic Orange Festival

2000 begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 with “Conversation with Philip Glass,” a

festival preview talk with one of America’s most famous living composers

hosted by Dean Corey, the society’s executive director. Glass’ choral

Pacific Symphony Orchestra will open its 2000-01 Mervyn’s Musical

Mornings Family Concert Series with “What’s Your Major?” at 10 and 11:30

a.m. Oct. 7. The 45-minute concerts, held at the Orange County Performing

Arts Center, are meant to expose children age 4 to 11 and their families

to symphonic music. The first concert will focus on the works of child

prodigies, such as Mozart and Mendelssohn. There also will be a musical

treasure hunt, free to ticket holders, at 9 a.m. for those attending the

10 a.m. concert and at 12:15 p.m. for those attending the 11:30 a.m.
