WHAT HAPPENED:

The board adopted a draft report that analyzes the potential

environmental effects associated with the proposed installation of field

lighting at Marina High School.

WHAT IT MEANS:

Last year, the board authorized the district’s staff to hire Pacific

Planning to conduct an environmental assessment of a proposed joint

project with the city of Huntington Beach for field lighting at the

school. An analysis determined the project wouldn’t have any significant

effect on the environment.

WHAT HAPPENED:

Trustees agreed to submit an application to the California Department

of Education to renew the district’s participation in the Morgan-Hart

Class-Size Reduction Program.

WHAT IT MEANS:

Funding from the grant is estimated to be $282,710 for the 2000-01

school year and will support reducing class sizes to 20 or fewer in

ninth-grade English classes at Ocean View, Marina and Westminster high

schools.
