East versus West at South Coast Plaza

Since changing the name of Crystal Court to South Coast Plaza the name

seems to get more and more burdensome. It is now often referred to as the

Crate & Barrel, Macy’s Home Store Wing, formerly Crystal Court.

May I suggest an easier one? West South Coast Plaza and East South

Coast Plaza.

Marian Bergeson ad is frustrating

Marian Bergeson’s misleading and ill-informed ad in the Daily Pilot is

extremely frustrating and anger provoking. Thanks to Jean Watt and Evelyn

Hart for coming forward and exposing Marian Bergeson for “not telling the

truth.” With Marian Bergeson’s background in public education, one would

wonder and question her homework.

Thank you Jean Watt and Evelyn Hart for clarifying the truth about

Measure S, money well-spent.

Crows do not deserve death sentence they’ve been given

I just finished reading the article regarding the shooting of crows,

“Neighbors divided on crow control,” Sept. 29. I strongly disagree with

these actions and cannot believe who approved it.

The shooting of crows or any other bird is appalling. For God’s sake,

these are living creatures who have every right to perch in the trees.

Remember people, birds chirp and crows caw. That’s what they do. If it is

too loud, so be it. What happens if a cat was shot by accident or heaven

forbid a child who is just climbing a tree? Who takes responsibility?

I live around the corner from the area mentioned. I have three wild

bird feeders in our yard. It is not uncommon to have dozens of birds,

crows, sparrows, some sea gulls, and even my favorite -- a red-tail hawk

-- on occasion.

They haven’t been showing up lately and now I know why.

Why is it right that we can raise havoc on July 4th and make noise on

New Year’s Eve, but a bird cannot do what they do?

That is chirping or cawing, just like a dog’s bark.

I do not know who came up with approving these actions, but if there

is a City Council meeting next time, I will be there. What happens next?

Shooting an egret in the Back Bay or a sea gull over the water because

they leave their droppings on someone’s boat?

Sorry folks, I find this wrong and embarrassing.

Bemoaning another influential list snub

I can’t believe that you left out Jean Watt from your most influential

list, especially considering her years of community service.

She’s the president and founder of Friends of Harbor, Beaches and

Parks. She’s also a co-founder and board member of SPON (Stop Polluting

Our Newport). If that’s not enough, she’s one of the driving forces

behind the new nature center in Newport Beach and is a member of the

Greenlight steering committee.

All you had to do was look as far as your Hall of Fame to find her

name.

Considering the fact that you included real estate brokers and a

waitress, you really missed the boat on this one. When I looked at your

list of contributors, I could see why you missed some of the truly

respected and influential people in this area.

You need to establish a better screening process than the one that you

have now.

In my estimation, Jean Watt should be ranked with the Untouchables.
