The Corona del Mar High girls volleyball team will give Laguna

Beach a shot at redemption tonight with a 6 p.m. showdown of the Pacific

Coast League’s top two teams.

The Sea Kings, ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division III-AA

edged Division IV-AA’s top-ranked team, the Artists, 2-15, 15-12, 15-6, 6-15, 15-11, in the PCL opener on Oct. 3, but lost to Laguna Beach

Saturday at the Torrey Pines Tournament.

Leading the Sea Kings in the first-round win was senior Lindsay

Anstandig, who had 16 kills, while Sara Deming added 13 kills and five

blocks and Katie Duggan added 12 kills and five blocks.

A win by the Sea Kings would give them a stranglehold on the PCL

championship, while an Artists’ win would make it anyone’s league to

take.

Elsewhere today:

Corona del Mar’s girls tennis team, ranked No. 3 in Division IV, will

host Division I’s No. 2 team, Dana Hills, at 3:15 p.m. in a nonleague

contest.

“I’m really looking forward to that contest,” Coach Andy Stewart said.

“That’s going to be a real tough test for us.”

The Sea Kings. 13-2, are coming off a convincing win against Laguna

Beach on Tuesday. The Artists are No. 1 in Division V.

Costa Mesa (5-5, 2-3 in league) and Estancia (2-10, 0-4) will renew

their age-old rivalry with a 3:15 girls volleyball matchup.

In girls tennis, Newport Harbor (9-4, 4-1), ranked No. 2 in Division

III, will host Edison (No. 8 in Division II) at 3:15.

Newport’s boys water polo team (12-4, 2-0) will play at Heritage Park

in Irvine with a 3 p.m. Sea View League contest againstWoodbridge.

Estancia will play at Corona del Mar (ranked No. 1 in Division II) at

4, while Costa Mesa plays at Northwood at 3:15 in other boys water polo

action.

The Newport Harbor and Trabuco Hills girls golf teams will play at

Coto de Caza Golf Course at 2:30 in a nonleague match.

Costa Mesa’s girls golfers will take on Irvine at Oak Creek Golf

Course at 3:30.

In collegiate action, the Vanguard University men’s soccer team,

currently in second place in the Golden State Athletic Conference, will

host Christian Heritage today at 3. The Lions are 7-4-1, 4-1-1 in the

GSAC.

The Orange Coast College women’s volleyball team, 8-4, 2-1 in Orange

Empire Conference play, will continue its road show with a 7 p.m. contest

against defending state champion Golden West.

The OCC women’s water polo team, fresh off it’s big Citrus College

Tournament title, will play at Fullerton at 4, while the men’s team

visits the Hornets at 3.

In women’s golf, OCC and Saddleback will play at Tijeras Creek Golf

Course at 1 p.m.
