Men’s soccer: Morgante named VU’s Player of the Week

COSTA MESA - Forward Andres Morgante, whose two goals propelled the

Vanguard University men’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over Cal Baptist, was

named the Lions’ Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 9-14.

Morgante, a junior transfer from Irvine Valley College, broke a 1-1

tie with the Lancers 12 minutes into the second half and added later

added an insurance goal to give the Lions a crucial Golden State Athletic

Conference victory.

Morgante has three goals and an assist this season and is third on the

Lions’ squad in total scoring.

With a playoff berth at stake, the win keeps the Lions (7-4-1, 4-1-1

in GSAC) in second place with three contests remaining.
