Jr. Midget Jaguars, Cowboys fight to scoreless tie

The Fountain Valley Junior Midget Jaguars turned in their strongest

defensive performance of the season Saturday, blanking the host Mission

Viejo Cowboys in a scoreless tie at Mission Viejo High.

Jim Lehman picked off two Cowboy passes for interceptions and Isaiah

Wilson had another to lead the defense. Adam Kennaday led the team in

tackles and Doug Sorrell swatted away a key pass attempt for Fountain

Valley, now 2-3-1 overall.

“It might have been a scoreless ballgame, but I tell you what, it was

a great game,” Fountain Valley coach Paul Sorrell said. “It was a real

defensive struggle and I’m really proud of the way our kids played. We

bent but didn’t break.”

The stingy Jaguars defense, which turned away three Mission Viejo

drives in the red zone, also had strong performances by Josh Tucker,

Sammy Khamis, Saul Fernandez, Matt Bitar, Garret Gaska, Dennis

Castonguay, Jim Flanagan, Luis Villegas, and Mike Silva.

Tailback Kyle Sharber played well for Fountain Valley. It was his

first start at tailback after moving over from the offensive line.
