TOM THOMSON ON:

* MEASURE S AND MEASURE T:

Opposes Measure T, but declines to comment on how he will vote on

Measure S, also known as the Greenlight initiative.

“We as council people are representatives of the people. Our job is to

listen to people and react in their best interest. If all council people

voted as I have over the last years, we would have not had a need [for

Measure S].”

Says he would support the Conexant and Koll Center development

projects, but opposed a hotel and convention center at Newport Dunes.

* ORANGE COUNTY AIRPORTS:

Says he plans to continue to work on extending the flight caps at John

Wayne Airport beyond 2005 and favors a second airport at the former El

Toro Marine Corps Air Station.

“El Toro is a perfect place for a second airport of a two-airport

system in Orange County. I am very disappointed in campaigning by South

County cities to stop what is needed for the growth and health of the

county. We need to keep that property available for an airport.”

* STATE OF THE BAY:

“If we don’t increase our efforts to clean [the upstream drains and

runoffs] ... we might very well be calling Newport Bay Newport Meadow. We

need to fight to get federal, state and county support to clean up the

runoffs, dredge the bay and increase flushing action of the bay. This

should have been going on 20, 30 years ago.”

* ANNEXATION PROPOSALS:

Sees the annexation of Newport Coast as a “very good thing” for

residents in the area, as well as those in the city.

“It doesn’t take rocket science to know that we are going to be

impacted by developments around us.”

* PRESERVING OPEN SPACE:

“We as individuals and as a community need to take steps necessary in

order to ensure that we leave our children a community that they can be

proud of.”
