COSTA MESA -- Two masked gunmen got away with nearly $1,000 Friday

morning after threatening employees at Coco’s Bakery and Restaurant on

Harbor Boulevard, police said.

Costa Mesa police are searching for the two robbers, who escaped in a

dark-colored sport-utility vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet Suburban,

authorities said.

No shots were fired and no one was injured in the heist, police said.

The robbers entered the restaurant around 6:45 a.m. and one of them

pointed a stainless steel or blue steel handgun at five employees who had

just opened the restaurant, said Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Don Holford.

They then ordered the employees into a storage room and asked the

manager to open the safe and hand them the cash, Holford said.

There were no customers in the restaurant at the time of the robbery,

Holford.

Authorities said both men, who were believed to be black and in their

20s, wore nylon ski masks. Police said one man was about 6 feet tall,

weighed 170 pounds and was wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt and blue

jeans. The other man was described as 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing

175 pounds. He was wearing a multicolored pullover sweater and blue

jeans.

Anyone who may have seen the suspects or witnessed the crime is asked

to call the Costa Mesa Police Department at (714) 754-5206.
