Newport Beach District 5 City Council candidate Steve Bromberg has

bolstered his campaign coffers with an $11,500 personal loan, as well as

$1,550 in individual contributions, according to late contribution

reports.

Already the lead fund-raiser in his district, Bromberg increased his

campaign total to $57,878, with $35,747 spent. Opponent Patricia M. Beek

has raised $21,997 and spent $11,321. Robert Schoonmaker, the third

candidate in District 5, has spent less than $1,000.

Bromberg previously received support from the Newport Beach Police

Assn. voter awareness committee, which paid $5,061 for mailers and

advertisements for him, District 7 candidate and incumbent Tom Thomson

and District 2 candidate Gary L. Proctor.

A committee supporting Proctor’s election also reported $18,411 in

late expenditures for mailers and a $2,500 contribution from William

Shatluck of Newport Beach.

The Newport Beach Tomorrow committee has so far raised $32,000 and

spent $28,449. Proctor himself has raised $47,180 and spent $29,449.

Dennis Lahey, also running in District 2, raised $2,449 and spent $1,592.

Steven Rosansky, another candidate for the same seat, spent less than

$1,000.

Campaign committees and City Council candidates filed their final

preelection disclosure statements Oct. 26. While committees still have to

disclose contributions within 24 hours, candidates are only required to

disclose contributions that exceed $1,000, according to city officials.
