A little bit older and wiser, Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar

will, once again, hook up in yet another friendly girls volleyball

matchup tonight at 5 p.m. in the Sea Kings’ gym.

The two teams last met on Sept. 21 at Newport with the Sailors coming

out on top, 15-7, 10-15, 15-7, 15-5.

In that contest, Taylor Govaars led the victorious Sailors with 19

kills and 10 digs, while Liz Lord chipped in with 13 kills, five digs and

three blocks.

With their win over Costa Mesa on Thursday, the Sea Kings grabbed a

share of the Pacific Coast League title with Laguna Beach, who knocked

off Northwood in the league finale.

Two of the top boys water polo teams in Southern California get

together when Long Beach Wilson, ranked No. 3 in CIF Division I plays at

Corona del Mar, ranked No. 1 in Division II at 3:30.

The Sea Kings will try to make it two in a row over the Bruins this

season. They won, 9-6, in the semifinals of the S&R; Sport Water Polo

Tournament on Oct. 5.

Newport Harbor’s boys water polo team, ranked No. 1 in Division II,

will host Capistrano Valley at 3:30, while Estancia hosts Los Amigos at

3:15.

The Sailors’ boys and girls cross country teams will take to the

Irvine Park course for the Sea View League Finals. The boys will start a

2, while the girls begin at 2:30.

In collegiate action, the Orange Coast College women’s water polo

team, ranked No. 2 in the state, will take on Santa Ana in the first

round of the Orange Empire Conference championships at Cypress College,

beginning at 11 a.m. A Pirates’ win will send them to a 6:30 p.m.

contest.

The OCC men’s and women’s soccer teams will clash with rival Golden

West. The men (13-3-4, 9-2-1 in OEC) will play at GWC at 4, while the

women (13-7-1, 8-4) host the Rustlers at 3.

The Vanguard University men’s basketball team will kick off its

2000-2001 season at home against The Master’s College. Tip-off is set for

7:30.
