Local car enthusiasts at the recent Halloween Car Show and third
annual Trick or Treat Festival at the Orange County Marketplace in Costa
Mesa went home proud. Bill Sims of Costa Mesa won the award for best
Pontiac with his 1941 Pontiac sports coupe. Costa Mesa resident Anthony
Case won in the best stock car category with his 1951 Chevy. Ken Stuart
and his son, Cody, 12, of Newport Beach won the Halloween Award with
their 1932 orange Ford Roadster, which was decorated for the event. ...
Newport Harbor High School graduate Liz Reday’s painting was recently
accepted into the Cincinnati Art Club’s annual juried competition. The
painting, an oil on canvas work titled “Mist on River” will be on display
during the club’s 32nd annual juried exhibition Friday through Nov. 26 in
Cincinnati. Reday’s work has also been accepted in shows at the Brand
Library in Glendale and the Casper Artists Guild in Casper, Wyo. She
holds a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in London and has
studied at the Central School of Art in London. Over the past two years,
Reday’s paintings were featured in a series of one-man shows in major
cities across Japan, including Tokyo and Osaka. ... Turner Development
Corp. recently announced that Susan V.R. Drummy, vice president, has been
named a partner of the firm. Drummy has been involved with strategic
financial planning and daily operations at Turner since 1987. She is
responsible for project and corporate cash flows, budgeting and all
aspects of development accounting and reporting. Turner Development Corp.
is a Newport Beach-based player in the Orange County real estate market.
... Catherine J. Rasch, daughter of Army Col. Albert J. and Catherine J.
Rasch of Costa Mesa, graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training
Corps Advanced Camp at Fort Lewis, in Tacoma, Wash. She completed a
five-week course of intensive military leadership training and evaluation
exercises in communications, management and survival training. Rasch is a
1997 graduate of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana and is now attending
Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. ... Marine Corps Pvt. Troy C.
Shank, son of Anita Shank of Costa Mesa, has completed basic training at
Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. He completed 12 weeks of
training, which included 5 a.m. runs, field assignments, first-aid
education and assorted weapons training. Shank is a 1996 graduate of Horizon High School in Santa Ana. He joined the Marine Corps in March.
... Costa Mesa resident John Miles was one of the recipients of the
Abigail Abbott scholarships awarded as part of an employee retention
program this year by Abbott Resource Group Inc. in Irvine. Miles and two
other winners were chosen from 2,600 entries to receive $1,000 to help
them reach their educational goals. The Costa Mesa recipient is working
toward a Microsoft Certified Professional’s certificate at Pacific
College in Costa Mesa. He is the manager for information systems at
Graphics Packaging.
