pie-eating contest held during the third annual Trick or Treat Festival
on Oct. 29 at the swap meet at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa

resident Alex Bakulin has completed graduate school in the field of
philosophy at Purdue University . . . Vanover College freshman Rebecca
Lynn Nosaka of Huntington Beach is a member of the newly formed club Hui
Hauman ‘O Hawaii. The purpose of the club is to spread “aloha” (love and
caring) to aid incoming students from Hawaii. She is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Terrance Bartz of Huntington Beach . . . The Academy of
Performing Arts, a magnet school of the Huntington Beach Union High
School District, recognizes graduates Trevor Brackney and Alan Chin as
Academy Award recipients . . . Huntington Beach resident Robert Aponte
has been appointed sales manager of the new Claremore neighborhood of
single-family, detached homes in the Summer Lane community in Huntington
Beach . . . Frank J. Ford has been appointed senior vice president of
Pacific Liberty Bank in Huntington Beach. Ford has been with the company
since it opened in May 1999 . . . Marine Corps Pfc. Joseph J. Ellis
reported for duty with the Marine Air Group 46, Detachment A, at Camp
Pendleton. Ellis is a graduate of Ocean View High School . . . The Cal
State Long Beach chapter of Pi Alpha, a national honor society for public
affairs and administration, inducted John DeWitt and Johnny Jurado of
Huntington Beach . . . Heather A. Curley of Huntington Beach received a
master’s degree in mathematics education from Boston University . . .
Kristin Sullivan of Huntington Beach was named to the dean’s list at
