Marina wins field hockey title
A year after falling one win short of the title, the Marina High
School girls’ field hockey team has ascended to the top.
The Vikings earned their first Tournament of Champions crown Saturday
when they edged Newport Harbor, 1-0, in a sudden-death thriller played at
Pleasant View Park in Huntington Beach.
Heather Kindschi scored off a cross from teammate Chelsea Davis in
overtime to provide Marina with its margin of victory.
Goalie Lissette Kocka played a great game in the net and recorded
eight saves to get the shutout.
The victory was the 20th of the season for Coach Chris Gray’s squad,
which ended its championship-winning campaign with a 20-3-2 record.
