Green Lima Beans advance to final

The Green Lima Beans out of AYSO Region 143 advanced to this weekend’s

Area K girls’ under-16 championship final by defeating Region 117, 3-2,

Saturday.

Midfielder Erin Silverlake scored off a penalty kick to bring the

Green Lima Beans into a tie at 1. Kayla Metherall gave them a 2-1 lead on

a scoring shot from under the near post crossbar, and Anna Attard scored

what proved to be the winning goal on a shot from well outside the

penalty area, resulting in a 3-1 halftime lead.

After Region 117 closed the gap to 3-2 in the second half, the Green

Lima Beans’ defense, anchored by Danae Lucas, held on for the win.

Alisha Khan made key saves in goal for the Green Lima Beans, who also

received strong play from Gina Attard, Veronique Boucquey, Erin

Cherpeski, Danielle Cobb, Annita De Giglio, Michelle Hampton, Jennifer

Kramer, Melissa Kuhnke, Shannon O’Neill, Amandah Roy, Donniell Silva and

Katie Sullivan.

The Green Lima Beans will take on Region 143 rival Huntington Beach

Lightning on Saturday for the Area K title. Match time is set for 9 a.m.

at Meadow View field.

Nikki Freiborg and Loren Kortizija each scored once, and Caitlin

McGinnis had an assist for the Stars (5-1-2).

Taryn Cretikos scored from 23 yards out for Xtream.

BOYS’ UNDER-14 DIVISION

No Names 4, Region 56 3

Giovanni Espinoza, Jesse Munoz, Boyd Johnson and Jason Allen all

scored to lead the No Names.

UNDER-12 DIVISION

sh Panthers 3, Golden Eagles 1

Joshua Garcia scored two goals, Cory Hill scored once, and Steve

Nelson and Kade Morgan provided key support for the Panthers.

Evan Emrich and Devin Montes paced the Golden Eagles.
