Joe Carchio is one of the candidates testing the political waters for

the first time. He graduated from Seton Hall University in New Jersey and

has coached baseball at Ocean View High School for the last 14 years.

His overriding concern in Huntington Beach is keeping public safety

No. 1, he said.

While the safety and welfare of the city is paramount, Carchio also

said the city’s larger view should be focused on its beaches,

infrastructure and youth.

JOE CARCHIO ON:

* REDEVELOPMENT

Carchio said city officials should strive to make Huntington Beach a

more business-friendly environment.

Efforts should be made, he added, to attract a diverse set of

businesses into the Downtown area.

“I believe in rent control for mobile homeowners. And I think that

incentives for developers could help supply the city with needed

affordable housing,” he said.

By working closely with business owners and developers, the city will

succeed in its redevelopment efforts, he said.

* THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FACING THE CITY

The city should step up efforts to keep its beaches clean and free of

bacteria, as well as protect and maintain open spaces such as the Bolsa

Chica mesa, he said.

“The city’s infrastructure, such as road repairs and sewer

maintenance, are also main points that should be addressed in the

future,” he said.
