Boys tennis: CdM’s Morton to UC Irvine

Corona del Mar High senior Brian Morton, who teamed with K.C.

Corkery to win the Southern California boys 18s sectional doubles

championship Sunday, has accepted a tennis scholarship from UC Irvine,

according to his father Glenn.

Morton and Manhattan Beach resident Corkery, defeated Rylan Rizza and

Jeff Kazarian, both of Rancho Palos Verdes, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6, Sunday at Los

Caballeros Sports Village in Fountain Valley.

Morton had teamed with Rizzo to win another 18s sectional doubles

crown in June.

Morton, who shared MVP honors with teammate Cameron Ball last year for

the Sea Kings, had said he would not play high school tennis this season.

But he has changed his mind, his father said, and is looking forward to

helping Coach Tim Mang’s Sea Kings gun for a CIF Southern Section title.
