The Newport Beach Slammers had little luck against the Orange Coast

United Rush in two previous meetings between the two girls’ Under 12

soccer teams this season, but last Saturday, the third time proved

different.

Newport Beach finally got the best of OCU Rush, 2-0, despite strong

performances by Rush players Elyse VanLeer and Amanda Shaw.

OCU Rush had beaten the Slammers by identical 2-1 scores in their two

previous meetings this season.

On Sunday, OCU Rush bounced back by posting a 2-1 decision over Canyon

Classic FC of Anaheim Hills. Courtney Anderson scored a first-half goal

and Cindy Mendoza scored in the second half to secure the victory.

Robin Ibettson, Brittany Koster, Amy Staudinger, Tori Rocke, Jennifer

Powell, Samantha Castillo, Ali Torres, Sasha Key, Chelsea Wisdom, Brianna

Baker and Jaque Anderson also contributed to the win, which put OCU Rush

at 11-2 in Coast League play.
