Jayson Lewis recently joined the Huntington Beach Police Department.

He worked for the Los Angeles Police Department from 1994 to 1998, when

he moved to Boise, Idaho, where he became a deputy for the Ada County

Sheriff’s Department. . . . Three area residents have graduated from the

Army Reserve Officer Training Corps’ Camp Challenge at Fort Knox, Ky.

They are Simon Bhavilai, the son of Udumchoke Bhavilai of Huntington

Beach; Mark P. Palma, the son of Mario M. and Edna P. Palma of Fountain

Valley and a 1998 graduate of Fountain Valley High School; and Jonathan

R. Rosen of Huntington Beach, a June graduate of Ocean View High School

who attends the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M.. The

five-week camp is designed to qualify college students who have not taken

the ROTC course on campus to enter the Advanced Senior ROTC Program. . .

. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Michael D. Lara of Huntington Beach is

stationed aboard the guided missile frigate USS Vandergrift, which is

deployed to Japan. He maintains the ship’s paperwork and ensures the

accuracy of enlisted personnel records. . . . Air Force Airman David D.

La of Fountain Valley has graduated from basic military training at

Lackand Air Force Base in San Antonio, Tex. During the six weeks of

training, he studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs,

receiving special training in human relations. He is a 1996 graduate of Fountain Valley High School. . . . Army Pvt. Jesse M. Dixon, the son of

Kathy M. Dixon of Huntington Beach, has graduated from basic combat

training at Fort Knox, Ky. He received instruction in drill and

ceremonies, weapons, physical fitness, first aid and Army history and

traditions. . . . Army Capt. Joseph S. Meisinger, the son of George E.

and Sandra B. Meisinger of Huntington Beach, has been decorated with the

Army Commendation Medal for completing a military service enlistment in

an exemplary manner. The medal is awarded to those individuals who

demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the

performance of their duties. . . . Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jonathan

R. Stahl, the son of Kathy M. Stahl of Huntington Beach, has been

assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, which recently

assisted in the recovery effort of Gulf Air Flight 72, which killed all

143 aboard Aug. 23.
