Boeing gives $15,000 for school technology

Sport celebrities, business people and community members joined

parents and staff members from the Huntington Beach City School District

at the “Touchdown for Technology” fund-raiser sponsored by the Huntington

Beach Educational Foundation.

Former Rams quarterback Vince Ferragamo and two-time Olympic softball

gold medalist Laura Beg were among those at the Nov. 20 dinner and silent

auction at Meadowlark Clubhouse.

During halftime for the Rams-Redskins game, Perry Cain, manager of

government and community relations for Boeing Co., surprised foundation

President Suzanne Beukema with a $15,000 grant from Boeing.

The silent auction included items donated by local businesses and

staff members from all 10 of the district’s elementary schools.

Proceeds will benefit students through teacher mini-grants and the

awarding of annual school technology funds.

Fine arts instructor named to state board

Golden West College fine arts instructor Brian Conley has been

appointed by Gov. Gray Davis to the California Community Colleges Board

of Governors.

Conley, who was sworn in Nov. 10, will help oversee the community

college system, appoint the state chancellor and write state regulations.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Cal State Sacramento and a master’s

degree from Cal State Fresno. He is enrolled in a doctoral program at

Pepperdine University.
