Community panelists now under scrutiny by school board

The election at Marine View Middle School for community

representatives on Ocean View School District’s gymnasium community

advisory committee is now under review by the Board of Trustees.

Residents of the neighboring area of the school are upset that the two

elected representatives live in Huntington Harbour and not near the

school.

“The Marine View area has no representation from the community,” said

resident Todd Emmons, who was selected as an alternate for the

neighborhood.

The committee was created to review the fiscal plan, the size of the

proposed gyms and its use.

All four middle school communities elected two representatives and one

alternate Monday night. In addition to the community members, the

committee is comprised of the middle school principals, the

parent/teacher support group president and the district’s interim

director of maintenance, operations and facilities.

“How could somebody who doesn’t live in the affected area adequately

express the concerns of the people?” asked Emmons. “They have no vested

interest in anything that happens in the residential areas.”

The district is searching for a solution satisfying to everyone, Supt.

Jim Tarwater said.

The representatives are: Lawrence C. Eisele Jr., Mark Nussbaum,

alternate Robert Devot for Mesa View; Stewart Lumb, Karen Martin,

alternate George Falkenstein for Spring View; Vickie Brun, Morton Fried,

alternate Rich McGann for Vista View; Willie Correia, Tom Overend,

alternate Todd Emmons for Marine View.
