Barons’ Allen third at state meet

Junior Julia Allen of Fountain Valley High School ran a 17:53 race

Saturday and finished in third place overall in the Division I individual

race at the 2000 High School Cross Country State Championships, held at

Woodward Park in Fresno.

Allen’s run helped the Sunset League champion Barons to finish in

sixth place in the Division I team standings.

Edison High, in its first appearance at the state meet, placed 18th

overall in the Division I boys’ competition. The three-time defending

Sunset League champion Chargers, who received an at-large berth to

compete in Fresno after finishing eighth overall at the Nov. 18 CIF

Division I finals, are comprised of three all-league runners: Scott

Brandos (also named all-county), Kevin McCarter and Artie Moreno, as well

as Matt Udink, Robbie Simon, Steven Chen and Peter Barriga.

Edison was ranked fourth in the county, and among the top 15 teams in

the Division I state rankings.
