FOUNTAIN VALLEY -- During a very festive evening Tuesday that included

more than 200 residents and an appearance by Santa Claus, Larry Crandall

was introduced as the city’s new mayor.

The introduction took place outside of City Hall and was conducted by

Crandall’s predecessor, Councilman Guy Carrozzo.

In an act signifying the beginning of the holiday season as well as

his new role as mayor, Crandall stepped up to the podium and led the

countdown to the 27th annual freedom tree lighting. Nothing could curb

the enthusiasm of Crandall, who just last month, was reelected to the

City Council.

Crandall’s wife, Sandra, said although it has been a very busy time

for them, she and her husband feel very much at peace.

“Although it did come a year early, it’s exciting to see him

accomplish a goal that he has wanted,” she said.

Crandall was named mayor because Councilman Chuck Conlosh, who was

next in line to lead the city, declined the job.

Former council secretary Linda Short said she was happy to be back for

the celebration and said Crandall has worked hard as a public servant and

deserves to be mayor.

“He’ll be a good mayor because he dedicates a lot of his time to the

city and because he is looking forward to serving,” Short said.

The evening’s protocol continued with a brief City Council meeting

where roles officially changed hands. During that time, Councilwoman

Laurann Cook was elected deputy mayor. With his final comments as mayor,

Carrozzo thanked his constituents, colleagues and his wife Delores. “She

[Delores] is the person who gives stability to my life; my calming

influence and partner,” he said. “So I owe her a very big thank you.”
