Paula Pappas has joined the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in

Huntington Beach as a sales manager. She will concentrate her efforts in

the northeast region of the United States, introducing the Waterfront to

new corporations and associations and servicing existing customers . . .

Army Pvt. Charles Swain of Fountain Valley graduated from basic training.

He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert L. Swain of Fountain Valley and a

1998 graduate of Fountain Valley High School. Swain attended Cal Poly San

Luis Obispo prior to joining the Army . . . The Creative Arts Division of

Golden West College has hired Tom Amen as its first theater instructor in

more than 15 years. Besides his new duties at Golden West, Amen is the

artistic director of the Ground Zero Theater Company in Laguna Beach. He

is directing his first play at Golden West, titled “All in the Timing,”

in StageWest through Saturday . . . The Huntington Beach Union High

School District named Kathy Sullivan the district’s library and media

specialist. She will work with Edison and Huntington Beach high schools .

. . The Orange County chapter of the National Assn. of Women Business

Owners honored Leslie Purdy, president of Coastline Community College.

Purdy, president since 1994, is active in many community organizations

and boards. The college now serves more than 12,000 students each

semester . . . Joe Deno of Huntington Beach won the Best Paint and Best

Flames awards for his 1958 Cadillac coupe, and fellow Huntington Beach

residents Jay and Geri McCullough won an award for Best Convertible at

the Halloween Car Show and Third Annual Trick or Treat Festival at the

Orange County Swapmeet in Costa Mesa in October.
