With regard to Mayor Gary Monahan’s comment that it is “not a big

deal” for a husband to sign a nominating petition for his wife, which is

the allegation regarding the papers filed by new Councilman Chris Steel,

I wonder if the mayor is familiar with the state Elections Code, which

states:

“Every person who subscribes to any nomination petition a fictitious

name, or who intentionally subscribes thereto the name of another . . .

is guilty of a felony and is punishable by imprisonment in the state

prison for 16 months or two or three years.”.

Frankly, it bothers me that Mayor Monahan doesn’t consider an apparent

felony violation of the law to be a “big deal.”

I wonder whether or not the other “powers that be” charged with

investigating this matter will consider it a “big deal.”
