Fountain Valley resident Heather Hammer will spend the 2000-01

academic year at Cal State Long Beach studying in Mexico. Fellow student

Christopher Basich of Huntington Beach will spend next year studying in

the United Kingdom . . . Ocean View High School junior Debbie Hirschberg

of Huntington Beach was one of the first students to sign up for the

Regional Occupational Program’s First Responder class. As a student, she

will learn all aspects of the emergency medical field, including legal

and ethical issues, anatomy and physiology, CPR, common medical

emergencies, traumas, and childbirth . . . Huntington Beach residents

Jennifer Benson and Puteh Kamaruzzaman received a bachelor’s degree in

the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Nebraska . . .

Huntington Beach resident Michael Segal has earned the title of personal

financial representative and is now a member of a group of All State life

insurance specialists who will be able to provide customers variable

annuity, variable life and mutual fund products . . . Justin Purewal, a

senior at Edison High School, was selected as one of 10 high school

students in Orange and Los Angeles counties by the Committee for Advanced

Science Research to receive pay and work with a professional research

scientist. Purewal completed more than 360 hours of research work this

summer in the Molecular Endocrinology Laboratory at UC Irvine. Of the 50

top science students taking the three-hour exam in chemistry,

biochemistry, biology and mathematics, Purewal was the top scorer.
